She was the first woman to be elected to the seat of Wentworth in 2018 (and prior to that, the first woman to be elected president of the Australian Medical Association).
Her time in Parliament left a significant legacy: Dr Phelps was instrumental in the campaign to get children out of immigration detention on Nauru.
As an independent, she was a pivotal forerunner in the community independents movement. Her pathway into politics has inspired many independent candidates and politicians who have followed since.
In conversation with Climate 200’s Convenor, Simon Holmes à Court, they will discuss on her pathway to politics, what has learned about leadership, and what advice she’d give to people who want to do politics differently.
