Sydney is doing politics differently

Join us for a community event to hear about how we can help local campaigns across the country, find ways to get involved, and meet like-minded people who are passionate about  people-powered climate action.

We’ve recently launched our Community Accelerator Fund to turbocharge the most promising community independent campaigns – so we’re excited to speak to some of the great campaigners inside this movement.

We’ll hear from:

  • Kylea Tink is a successful businesswoman, community sector leader and independent federal MP. She’s a communications and campaigning expert who has led companies and charitable organisations. Her independent community campaign in North Sydney made history in 2022, turning a safe Liberal seat ‘teal’.
  • Nicolette Boele is the independent candidate in the Sydney seat of Bradfield. At the last federal election, her campaign secured the biggest swing against the Liberals of any community independent candidate. Then, last year, her grassroots campaign in support of the Voice referendum made Bradfield the only Liberal seat in the country to vote ‘Yes’.
  • Katerina Gaita is a community builder and organiser. She was instrumental in setting up ‘Voices of Goldstein’ – the community group that chose former foreign affairs correspondent Zoe Daniel to run as the independent candidate, and who ultimately won the safe blue-ribbon seat from Tim Wilson. Katerina was also Zoe’s Field Organiser during her election campaign.

The event will be hosted by our convenor, Simon Holmes à Court and Executive Director, Byron Fay, and MC-ed by award winning writer Briony Benjamin.
